Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about how TopSkills works, where the data comes from, and what you can do with it.

What is TopSkills?

TopSkills is a job market intelligence platform that analyzes thousands of tech job postings daily to show the most in-demand skills for each role. Pick a job title, see the top 5 skills employers want, and get AI-generated practice project ideas.

Where does the data come from?

We scrape job postings from major job boards and company career pages every day. Skills are extracted from each posting and ranked by how frequently employers mention them.

How often is the data updated?

Every day. The skills you see reflect what employers are asking for right now, not last quarter.

What roles are covered?

We track the most in-demand tech roles - software engineers, frontend engineers, backend engineers, data scientists, product managers, DevOps engineers, and more. New roles are added regularly based on demand.

How are the AI project ideas generated?

We feed the top skills for your selected role to an AI model, which generates two hands-on projects designed to help you practice those exact skills together. One project targets junior-level experience, the other mid-level.

Is TopSkills free?

Yes. The core experience - picking a role, seeing top skills, and getting project ideas - is free.

How is TopSkills different from job boards?

Job boards show individual listings. TopSkills shows patterns across thousands of listings - which skills keep appearing, which ones matter most, and what to practice to match what employers actually want.
